About the event
Since 2015, the Cover Crop Breeding Network has been breeding fall-sown legume cover crops for fall emergence, winter survival, spring vigor, high biomass, hard seed, and non-shattering pods. In 2022, we began breeding cereal rye specifically for overwinter cover crop use.
The CCB Network’s first hairy vetch and winter pea varieties are ready to release in 2023, and much more is still in development.
Join us for a field walk to see what’s new & next! We’ll walk the plots for about 2 hours, talk about what we’re seeing (and not seeing) in the plants, and discuss ongoing and future projects. We’ll visit:
- Variety trials - Crimson clover, hairy vetch, and winter pea
- Planting date trials - Cereal rye and winter pea
- Seeding rate trials - Cereal rye and winter lentil
- Breeding nurseries - Cereal rye and winter pea
Please bring your questions, curiosity, and opinions -- we’re excited to hear your thoughts on breeding material, varieties, or trait combinations that might benefit your crop rotation or seed offering.
Hosted by Ginny Moore, Assistant Professor, Plant Breeding & Genetics, Cornell, and Solveig Hanson, CCB Network Coordinator.
We’ll meet rain or shine, and we’ll have beverages and snacks!
